Smart Cities and Their Impact on the Colombian Navy

The concept of smart cities has changed and people have started to talk about smart territories; these territories can range from an organization to an entire country. Currently, the importance of focusing governmental decisions and development plans on citizens and how to improve their quality of life is highlighted. This improvement can be achieved thanks to technological advances in information and communications. Understanding the general conceptualization of smart cities, that successful projects have been developed in different fields and especially in the military industry, opens the spectrum of the impacts that can be generated in the Colombian Navy, however, it can be evidenced how projects led by civilian and military personnel of the Colombian Navy have implemented the scheme of smart cities or territories without this implying a governance or ordinance plan on the subject. Considering the above, it is important to have clarity on how to continue developing new technologies on the subject, but creating a model that finally results in a more significant impact on the mission and vision of the ARC.
