Efficiency Study of the Santarém Waterway Terminal Using the DEA and Stochastic Frontier Methods

National port development is related to the efficiency of the international commercial connections that the country establishes, which depends on the capacity to use the existing waterway network in the country. Thus, investments have been made in the area of water transport. With the importance of ports in the dynamics of logistics, there is a need to assess efficiency in order to optimize their operation and relate factors such as location, capacity, etc. From this, the present research aims to analyze the efficiency of the Santar´em waterway terminal through two methods: Stochastic Frontier and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The differences between these methods were elucidated and the results obtained to evaluate efficiency were demonstrated, relating it to the most influential characteristics studied in the terminal, as well as factors that can be changed to obtain better results in the future of the terminal.
