Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Adhesives for Application in the Naval Sector Through Digital Image Correlation

To reduce the weight of ships, it is necessary to develop lighter materials, which have better resistance to the marine environment and good mechanical properties. This reduction is directly related to lower fuel consumption and, therefore, to a reduction in the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere. With this objective, the application of structural adhesives to join naval steel in ships is studied. In the present work, the mechanical properties of adhesives are determined by the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique. It is necessary to deepen the research and development of analysis techniques that support the implementation of adhesive bonding technology in ships.
