Experimental Evaluation of Stern Appendages on the Forward Resistance of a Displacement Hull

The evaluation of the forward resistance of a displacement hull corresponding to an OPV patrol vessel is presented. The determination of the resistance was carried out experimentally by means of towing tank tests with a scale model according to the procedures established by the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) at the University Austral of Chile towing tank, an affiliated member of the ITTC. The towing tests were carried out for the bare hull and the effect of two types of stern appendages, interceptors with variable height and stern wedges with various angles, were also evaluated.
