Enhancing Medical Surveillance in Remote Areas with IoT-Based COVID-19 Biosensor System and LoRaWAN Network

摘要

The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant challenges in monitoring the health of vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those living in remote areas. Social distancing measures have limited social contact, making it difficult to monitor individuals’ medical conditions. Telemedicine and the Internet of Things (IoT) have emerged as promising solutions to this problem. In particular, Long Range (LoRa) networks and The Things Network (TTN) have the potential to facilitate medical monitoring in remote areas. This paper presents a biosensor platform that was developed at the Electronic Sensors laboratory for the rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2. The biosensor platform is connected to TTN through a LoRa network, enabling the medical monitoring of individuals living in remote areas regarding SARS-CoV-2. Thus, the device can communicate with other IoT systems to exchange information. For example, it can communicate with an automated solar shading system, to adjust its behavior, allowing better air renewal and ventilation inside the buildings. Thus, this system provides an efficient and reliable way to track the spread of the virus, allowing for early detection and prevention of outbreaks in remote areas. By leveraging IoT technology and telemedicine, this system has the potential to improve the health outcomes of vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
