Introduction

This chapter provides an introduction to the work, starting with a brief history of modernparticle physics before discussing some of the field's main challenges today and how the the workhere fits in with addressing these challenges. Finally, a section is given laying out the mathematicalconventions and coordinates that will be used in the rest of the book, whilst also explaining some keyequations and concepts that come up throughout.
