Energy Transition

Many see climate change as the main challenge created by consumption and the burning of fossil fuels. In addition to climate change, the fossil economy today creates other serious challenges that are described here. This chapter describes the switching of energy sources and the impact from various sources in a life cycle perspective, as well as energy price senarios. The chapter describes the persepctives of the energy transition with battery technologies and nuclear energy. It describes the perspectives of renewable energi as one of the most democratizing instruments seen for long time. It gives a short introduction to the Smart City concept of monitering energy consumption data. This chapter gives a perspective on how the fossil economy has influences the spread of wealth globally and from where the impacts of GHG originate. It perspectives the necessity of a new economy to create a fair and sustainable planet. At the end of this chapter the positive and regenerative impacts of a holistic energy transition is highlighted.
