摘要

Blockchain is a technology that uses the concept of cryptography to securely and transparently record data across multiple computer systems in a distributed manner. This chapter explains the basic concepts of the blockchain technology and its applications in the educational landscape. The various areas within the education domain where the Blockchain can be applied are sharing and storing digital certificates, verification of academic records, fee payments, sharing of educational resources, placement-related activities, research collaborations, etc. The blockchain-based decentralized and secure network can be leveraged for handling academic records, certifications, and student data in the education sector. It is capable of tackling problems with credentialing and data management by improving transparency, lowering fraud, and expediting verification procedures. Data immutability provided by the blockchain technology could protect data integrity while smart contracts enable automated administrative duties. However, the adoption issues are posed by scalability, integration difficulties, and limitations to digital literacy and expertise. Despite these, the potential for blockchain to completely transform the way educational data is managed and to build trust between educators and students is still optimistic. However, there are several challenges faced while integrating the blockchain technology in the education sector, which are discussed in this chapter along with the possible solutions to address each of the challenge.
