Blockchain technology (BCT) has the potential to revolutionize education by addressing issues related to data privacy, security, verification, and accessibility. One application is the creation of verifiable digital credentials stored on a blockchain, reducing fraud and simplifying authentication. Another is the establishment of a lifelong learning record, providing a transparent view of an individual’s skills. Blockchain enhances security and privacy by offering decentralized and tamper-proof data storage. It can also enable decentralized educational content and learning platforms, fostering collaboration and learner-centric approaches. However, challenges include technical barriers, regulatory considerations, and scalability issues. Further research is needed to fully explore blockchain’s potential in education and overcome these challenges. By leveraging blockchain’s decentralized and immutable nature, education can benefit from enhanced data integrity, streamlined verification processes, and increased accessibility. The technology has the power to empower learners, educators, and employers by providing a secure and transparent framework for managing educational credentials and achievements. Continued exploration and experimentation are vital to harness the full potential of blockchain in education while addressing its limitations.
