The Regulator, the Regulatee, and the End of the World as We Knew It

The rapid breakdown of the climate has radical implications for hazardous industries and for the regulator–regulatee relationship. It will lead to an exponential increase in NaTech events, and as such will transform the scale and level of complexity of contingency planning. As most fossil-fuelled hazardous industries play an oversized role in overshooting planetary boundaries, these industries will need to transform radically or shut down. To tackle such challenges, the regulator–regulatee relationship needs to transform itself so as to still be relevant and impactful in a troubled future.
