Assessment of Employability Skills Under SDG 8 Among Graduates From Rural Karnataka

India is one of the world's youngest countries and a large portion of the population is under the age of 25. While discussing skills and employability, India is one of the most pertinent country with human resources to be properly explored. In comparison with developing countries, developed countries have grown at a faster rate and similarly, in India, urban areas are progressing faster than rural areas in economic growth and development. To close the gap, the government launched numerous programmes in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), which supports employability-boosting skill development and fosters inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. The majority of young people are not aware about the programmes are not reaching the masses. Though India will emerge as the largest manpower supplier in the world, there is an upsurge in the number of college graduates entering the workforce every year, low employability rates exist even in metropolitan cities like Chennai, Delhi and Bengaluru. The study was conducted in Karnataka among college students to understand the students’ perception and level of understanding of the importance of employability skills for the growth of individual and national economy.
