Eyelids

The eyelids perform many important functions, and their delicate structure can be easily distorted during surgery. They are complex multilayered structures, and a sound understanding of the anatomy and function is essential and should be undertaken by appropriately trained clinicians. The “lamellar” structure and its relevance in reconstruction is described. The reconstructive options for defects of various sizes, shapes and depth in the different subunits are described in detail with the help of excellent step-by-step colour diagrams and photographs of clinical cases. A helpful algorithm of reconstructive options is included at the end of the chapter.
