Scalp Reconstruction

The skin of the scalp is thick and relatively inelastic, and the presence of hair and convex nature of the skull can all add to difficulties with reconstruction. The relevant anatomy is described, and the relative mobility of the various parts of the scalp highlighted. The most appropriate reconstruction for defects of various sizes, shapes and depth in different sites of the scalp is described in detail with the help of excellent step-by-step colour diagrams and photographs of clinical cases. Techniques of autologous epidermal cell suspension and dermal regeneration template for reconstruction are highlighted. A helpful algorithm of reconstructive options is included at the end of the chapter.
