Robotic Assisted Laparoscopy in the Treatment of Genito-Urinary Prolapse

Within an aging population, pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is becoming more and more prevalent; The lifetime risk of undergoing surgery for POP is calculated to be about 11–19%. The treatment of pelvic organ prolapse has known several approaches varying form the a conservative management with the use of a pessarium, over a vaginal approach towards an abdominal approach. In this era of minimal invasive surgery this abdominal approach can be performed laparoscopically as well with robotic assistance. Since the first report of robot sacrocolpopexy in 2004 by Di Marco, RASC has become standard of care in many centres with robotic expertise. The main goal of the correction of POP is: In this chapter we want to describe the technique of robotic sacrocolpopexy as well as set-up, outcomes, complications, cost-analysis and future directions.
