Single Port Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy: Technique and Considerations

Single port (SP) robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) is a newer approach to minimally invasive extirpative surgery for primary malignancy of the bladder. The SP platform has distinct advantages over MP for RARC, including fewer incisions, camera flexibility, and robot patient-cart maneuverability for multi-quadrant surgery. There is a formidable learning curve, however, with effective SP maneuverability in a large intraperitoneal space a particular challenge. None of the technical differences of the SP system are uniquely applicable to cystectomy or urinary diversion, but rather inherent to the mechanics of the SP setup. In this chapter we describe the technique and considerations for SP RARC.
