A Fault Tree for Reliability Analysis of an Intercity Train Door

摘要

The door system on trains is one of the most critical subsystems, particularly from a passenger safety perspective. It is reported that 30–40% of rolling stock failures are related to the door system. Failure of components during regular operation can bring services to a complete stop, incurring prolonged delays and fines. Therefore, the reliability of the door system and its sub-components is crucial for the safe and continuous operation of any train. In this study, fault tree reliability analysis was recommended to manage the continuous operational functionalities of an intercity train door system. Fault tree-based reliability analysis is a popular technique used across many industries. A data-driven approach is proposed to build a fault tree of an intercity train plug door system. The fault tree can be modified over time as more records and data become available. This reliability analysis could help reduce the likelihood of critical failures while providing more dependable rolling stock operation. Based on the subsystems’ reliability, the developed framework can be used to compare various system designs and improve maintenance strategies.
