V-ESU: Online Virtual Environment for an Electrical Unit Simulator

In this paper, we present the implementation of a virtual online environment for an electrosurgical unit (ESU) simulator with educational purposes. The online virtual environment was created with the Blender software, and implemented with JavaScript libraries such as Three.js, which is a library specialized in 3D virtual environments, in addition to the use of HTML and CSS. This environment is designed so that users can learn and reinforce their knowledge of the different configurations and uses of an electrosurgical unit, at any time of the day and from any place in the world, thanks to being an online platform. The operation of this simulator was evaluated by students, obtaining a positive response in terms of usability, functionality and educational value from six users who evaluated the high-fidelity prototype. This design seeks to help students of biomedical engineering and the healthcare field to have a simulator available to facilitate the learning of the equipment in different academic courses, such as biomedical instrumentation, biomedical design, and others.
