Proportional Valve Design for Critical Care Mechanical Ventilator Using Computer-Aided Engineering

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a rapid progression in the number of critically ill patients requiring the use of mechanical ventilation, in addition to other patients who require this type of care. However, many of the parts needed to manufacture mechanical ventilators have become scarce during the pandemic. This issue generated many bottlenecks in the projects and the lack of preparation of industries from many countries in the production of certain parts, including valves for flow and pressure control, for mechanical ventilation became visible. The present work brings the design proposal for a proportional control pinch valve of easy manufacturing and with the necessary performance to be used in mechanical ventilators as an inspiratory control valve.
