Demystification of Colors in Kirlian Photography as a Clinical Diagnostic Method

Kirlian Photography is the photography of the Luminous Halo, known as the Corona effect resulting from the ionization of the air due to the application of high-voltage electric fields in objects, fingertips, or plant leaves. Many studies have disseminated this technique, in the context of alternative therapies, as applicable to the diagnosis of various diseases and mental and bioenergetic states of human beings. Although digital photography techniques have reached higher quality levels than analog films, we are experiencing a phenomenon of the resurgence of analog techniques. This inspires the need of reviewing Kirlian Photography approaches with photographic films as an alternative method of diagnosis. The present work focuses on the evaluation of this technique to demystify some patterns in these photographs as indicators for clinical diagnoses. Kirlionic Corona emission spectroscopy revealed a large amount of ultraviolet radiation with a smaller portion of light in the visible spectrum with a predominance of violet/blue. Analyzing Kirlian Photography’s technique, it was observed that Corona can occur both at the top and at the bottom of the photographic film. Experiments have shown that when Corona occurs only at the top of the film, Kirliangraphy is revealed in blue color. However, it was also observed that when Corona occurs under the photographic film, the radiation generated sensitizes the film from the opposite side, producing a severe chromatic aberration that many unsuspecting practitioners, including medical doctors, psychologists, and therapists, mistakenly believe to be related to the biological states of the patient.
