Analysis of the Brazilian Job Market for Biomedical Engineering: A Pilot Study

The entry of the biomedical engineer into the Brazilian labor market is recent since the first undergraduate course in biomedical engineering dates from 2001 and the professional recognition of the biomedical engineer at the Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy (CONFEA) and the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy (CREA) took place in 2018. This work is a pilot study that aims the analysis of job vacancies for graduates of biomedical engineering courses after three years of career regulation. An analysis of available job opportunities on the Indeed job search platform was conducted for biomedical engineering professionals and related fields. Vacancies with adherence to the profile of the biomedical engineer were selected and classified according to the area of activity and main activity. At the end of the analysis, 97 vacancies were analyzed, and the results suggest that the national market does not direct the search for a professional with a degree in biomedical engineering, expanding the search for professionals with other backgrounds.
