Features of the Introduction of Digital Currency into the National Payment System in the Context of Global Socio-Economic Instability

At the present stage, many well-established systems are being rethought, including due to the fact that the sanctions policy of the leadership of the European Union and the United States has become a trigger for rethinking elements of the Russian monetary and payment and settlement systems. The traditional financial system around the world has begun to experience the challenges and risks of a period of socio-economic instability. Development, testing, implementation of digital settlement tools in national payment systems, as well as clarification of the essence of the concept of “digital currency” is an urgent direction in the near future of the development of national financial systems. The definition of the main features in the world practice of the introduction and use of digital means of payment in national payment systems today is a popular scientific and practical direction. The purpose of the article is to identify the true essence of the concept of “digital currency”, its interpretation from the standpoint of practical use as a tool of monetary and payment and settlement policy in Russia. The comparative analysis of domestic and foreign sources, the synthesis of scientific knowledge, the method of expert evaluation, as well as the method of system analysis were used in the study. As a result, a roadmap for the introduction of the “national digital currency” into the national payment system of Russia has been developed and presented, taking into account the forecast opportunities and risks.
