Case Study II: Key Concepts and Approach

This chapter introduces the second case study, which focuses on physical space, that is, how it is described and presented to the readers. This is examined through an analysis of adjectives modifying nouns relating to physical space. This provides information about the concept of tourist gaze and how it is similar or differs cross-linguistically. The chapter begins by examining the importance of physical space and how different societies might adopt a different tourist gaze towards it, before explaining how exactly adjectives have been identified in the TrAIL corpus, and the detailed methodology for their analysis.
