Translating Tourism

  • Sofia Malamatidou

摘要

This chapter examines tourism translation, starting with an exploration of the importance of adaptation in tourism translation and how previous studies have approached the topic, both in terms of focus (e.g. semantics versus pragmatics) and in terms of the methodologies employed to examine tourism texts and their translations. It also presents the approach adopted in this book which aims to uncover the missing link in the analysis of tourism texts between the micro-level (i.e. linguistic features) and the macro-level (i.e. the socio-cultural considerations), that is, to understand how people’s socio-cultural preferences, that is their perceptions and experiences of the world around them, are reflected in and realised through specific linguistic choices.
