Unclouded Judgment: Using Cronbach Alpha to Validate a Cyberbullying Instrument (2018)

I conducted this study in late 2017/early 2018 which included faculty and administration in the data collection. To date, few researchers had addressed cyberbullying specifically in higher education. When completing the previous book, The Coercive Community College, I recognized a gap in the literature that overall paid little attention to bullying through technology. Given that the data collection included investigating a new area, I found it necessary to create an original instrument. The primary data collection instruments relied on a sample of n = 734 faculty and staff. I utilized theories regarding social dominance theory [Ho, A. K., Sidanius, J., Pratto, F., Levin, S., Thomsen, L., Kteily, N., & Sheehy-Skeffington, J. Personality & Social Psychology Bulletin, 38(5), 583–606 (2012). https://doi.org/10.1177/0146167211432765 ], power, [Brandl, Generations, 24(2), 39–45 (2000)] and oppression [Freire, Pedagogy of the oppressed. 1968. M. B. Ramos, Trans. Seabury Press (1970)]. The Cronbach’s Alpha process is presented step-by-step. The chapter continues with the data collection procedures and the findings; then, the actual instrument is presented. The chapter concludes by discussing the book chapters and conference presentations that resulted from the study.
