Clinical Management of Class I Cases

Orthodontic treatment using clear aligners has over the years increased in take-up by clinicians and the demand is here to stay and possibly increase even more. The type of malocclusion that needs to be vitally managed exceptionally well are class I malocclusions as they could be the most frequently encountered. Generally, cases with class I malocclusions are complicated by lack of space, dental crowding or the opposite condition, and dental spacing. Other presenting features can include tooth-size discrepancy, technically referred to as Bolton’s discrepancy, crossbites; anterior or posterior or both, tooth rotations and upper and/or lower labial segment proclination. This chapter will focus on strategies and techniques used in clear aligner therapy including Invisalign® to address class I malocclusions with the above features. This chapter will also explain the various details that need to be completed at the prescription stage of submission. Details will be given on how to make best use of auxiliary features to obtain excellent treatment outcomes with the clear aligner technique for class I malocclusions.
