The Disappeared Survivors in Postwar Beirut: Intergenerational Trauma and Inaccessible Memories in al-Iʿtirāfāt

The controversial resolution of the Lebanese civil warLebanese civil war left behind several unresolved conflicts and overlooked tragedies, such as the disappearance of numerous people from various religious and political backgrounds, genders, and age groups across the country. In fact, there may not be a more tangible example of the protracted war trauma in postwar Lebanon than the case of the civil-war-disappearedwar disappeared, whose fate remains unknown up to today. These missing people were never a primary concern for any of the governments that have since ruled the country, possibly because such an investigation would hold current politicians accountable for past crimes.
