摘要

Researching mountain destinations can be an exciting endeavor, as these locations often offer stunning natural landscapes, outdoor activities, and unique cultural experiences. The forest ecosystems in Greece form the backbone of mountain excursions and the natural environment, playing an important role in the biological balance and survival of animal species and human beings. The attempt to evaluate the benefits provided by the forest ecosystems, specifically the Grammos area in the Region of Western Macedonia, through goods and services (usually unquantifiable, such as oxygen, recreation, and protection from dangerous weather phenomena) is a quantification of natural capital. This chapter attempts to link the characteristics of visitors to the area and nature with sustainable development, analyzing the attractiveness factors of the mountainous complex of Grammos, while at the same time investigating the perspective of sustainable tourism development through the development of recreational uses that take place within the study area, an area known for its natural beauty but also for its historical and cultural richness.
