LNG Carriers’ Discharge Waiting Time and Energy Inflation

In this study, we examine the relationship between the port congestion of the LNG carriers at European ports and energy inflation in the euro area. Given the fact that energy inflation is affecting not only companies but households as well, in our research, we provide an additional measure that adds to the shortcomings of the event. Our findings give further insights into the relationship between the shipping industry and its impact on the real economy and strengthen the argument that the industry per se is a leading indicator of the real economy.
