Empirical Study on the Role of Cultivation in the Acceptance of ICT Technologies in the Agricultural Sector of Kozani
摘要
This chapter presents the factors that impact the agricultural sector of the Kozani region to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as well as the crops to which they are applied. The area under consideration is the largest prefecture in the region of Western Macedonia which is currently in the status of “Just Development Transition” due to the region’s dependence on the production of the fossil fuel Lignite. In this survey data from 100 farmers of the region collected via a convenience sample procedure. The results reveal that a large part of Kozani’s population has moved to the agricultural sector in the last decade and a significant part of it is women. It also shows the tendency of young farmers for higher value-added crops and the number of crops chosen by the users of ICT technologies. At the same time, the paper greatly reveal the need to better inform farmers in the area as well as mobilize experts to ensure that new technologies and skills are transferred in an appropriate manner to the stakeholders.
