Traditional Authentication

The paradigm for user authentication has not greatly changed since computers came to market; many systems still rely on passwords. This chapter firstly introduces the concept of authentication, and then introduces the main categories of authentication mechanisms used today. The specific authentication mechanisms are then individually introduced and critically discussed. Then, a summary of user perceptions toward these type of authentication mechanisms is provided. Finally, the contents of the chapter are summarised.
