Advancements and Applications in Digital Dentistry: A Scoping Review

Introduction: Digital dentistry is a rapidly growing field that involves the use of digital technologies in various aspects of dentistry. This paper aims to provide an overview of the advancements and applications of digital dentistry. Methods: A scoping review of the literature has been conducted and the information was gathered from peer-reviewed articles, textbooks, and professional society guidelines. Results: The use of digital technologies such as Intraoral scanner, CBCT and 3D printers has improved the efficiency of dental procedures. Intraoral scanners are replacing traditional impression techniques. CBCT, on the other hand, provides 3D images of the teeth, bone, and surrounding structures. 3D printers have also made it possible to fabricate custom dental prostheses and orthodontic appliances with higher precision. Applications: Digital dentistry has many applications. Digital technologies are used to design and fabricate custom restorations, orthodontic appliances and to plan and place dental implants with high accuracy and predictability. They are also used in oral and maxillofacial surgery to plan and perform complex surgical procedures. Conclusion: Digital dentistry has revolutionized the field of dentistry by providing accurate and precise diagnostic and treatment planning tools, it also has significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of dental procedures. Digital dentistry has numerous applications in dentistry, including restorative dentistry, orthodontics, implantology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. As technology continues to advance, it is likely that digital dentistry will play an increasingly important role in the delivery of high-quality dental care.
