Science, Society, and Darwin’s Idealization

It was a Monday, 25 May 2020. One more Monday, similar to previous ones, as many people were instructed to remain at home because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But suddenly, something tragic happened. An event that would literally shake the planet. Not because it was something that was never seen. Well on the contrary. It had happened countless times before. Too many. One African American man was killed by a police officer, in the USA. But this time, the outcome was very different, for many reasons, including the fact that there was a video showing that tragic event. A huge number of people saw the video, often several times, because many people at that time were at home due to the pandemic, spending a great part of their time watching TV, in the USA and many other countries. The video showed how Derek Chauvin knelt on George Perry Floyd Jr.’s neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, displaying the consequences of systemic racism, in the most direct and horrible way.
