Selecting Switzerland

The study designStudy design of this book is based on four case studies located in SwitzerlandSwitzerland: the four cities—Zurich, Basel, Köniz, and Kloten—where a concrete densification area is analyzed. Through this case study designStudy design, objectives of broadness of scope and analytical depth are reached. Chapter 4 entangles what is specific to each case study and which observations are of broader significance. First, the Swiss context of the empirical analysisEmpirical analysis is described, then the detailed reasons for case selectionCase selection, as well as the different data collection and analysis methods applied. Lastly, this chapter is concluded by reflecting upon the researcher’s own positionality in the research process and the various challenges encountered in the field.
