Sustainable Wine Tourism: Best Practices
摘要
Tourism-related activities, despite being commercially beneficial, have exacerbated severe environmental and socioeconomic challenges. The need of the hour is for businesses in the wine tourism sector to go beyond financial gain, examine their business practices, and transition to sustainable business practices in order to reduce their environmental and social repercussions. Addressing environmental and socioeconomic issues would integrate sustainability into the wine tourism industry, potentially enhancing wine tourism and encouraging expansion in the wine value chain. Building on previous studies, this chapter investigates best practices that wineries and wine tour operators, two major players in the wine tourism industry, can incorporate into their core business functions to make their operations more sustainable, ultimately contributing to the sustainability of the wine tourism industry. Sustainability-based management will enable wineries and wine tour operators to not only meet their environmental and social obligations, but also gain a competitive advantage through increased client acquisition prospects and decreased operational expenses. The chapter additionally discusses the importance of national governments in aiding wineries and wine tour operators in attaining sustainability.
