Finding Meaning in Life in a Changing World

  • Rachel Bolaji Asagba

摘要

The quest to find meaning in life is part of human existence. As demonstrated by Viktor Frankl in his theory of logotherapy, the reality of change is normal. In the same vein, finding meaning is a normal process in life that cannot be undertaken by anyone else except the seeker. To support this concept, a comparison of depth versus height psychology on human motivation was made, using Elisabeth Lukas’s model of the human search for meaning. Frankl’s development of the concept of logotherapy is based on the quest of humans to find meaning as being a part of their existence. A comparison of theories of the leading three Viennese psychotherapists (Freud, Adler, Frankl) was used to clarify the concept of finding meaning in life. Change is a normal phenomenon in the world, which requires the utilization of the concepts and principles of logotherapy, particularly its three avenues for finding meaning. The role of care providers is noted in the promotion of finding meaning.
