So Much to Learn: Keynote Address at the Third Future of Logotherapy World Congress, Vienna, Austria

The author outlines his fortuitous meeting with Viktor Frankl in graduate school, which culminated in a decades-long association and friendship. These experiences had a profound impact on him and helped to shape his understanding of logotherapy and his perspectives on life’s journey. Thirteen lessons are noted from his long association with Frankl, including the importance of hard work, mentorship, communication, humor, forgiveness, and humility. As well, the author points to Frankl’s insistence that logotherapy should be “degurified.” Particular emphasis is given to (a) the need to acknowledge the uniqueness of each person, (b) the problem of money, (c) the need for social responsibility in the face of injustice, and (d) the need to challenge the status quo.
