In his reflections on the uncontrollability of desire and the desire for the uncontrollable, Rosa makes several important points. Some of his arguments concerning this subject, however, deserve to be examined in further detail, especially with regard to the following issues: (1) the relationship between structure and agency; (2) the relationship between multiple motivational forces; (3) the relationship between exogenous and endogenous forces; (4) the relationship between humanity and autonomy; (5) the relationship between desire and control; (6) the relationship between the right life and the wrong life; and (7) the relationship between determinacy and indeterminacy.
