XIII. The Power of Resonance: With, Through, and Beyond Humanity

In his attempt to develop a sociology of our relationship to the world, Rosa offers a highly original perspective on the species-constitutive significance of resonance. One of the main problems with his approach, however, is that it is so broad and all-encompassing that resonance is presented as too elastic a concept. For the concept of resonance to serve as a solid normative ground for critical theory, it has to be both sufficiently broad and elastic to include a wide range of actors, activities, and arrangements and sufficiently narrow and categorical to exclude those living and non-living elements of the world that are incapable of triggering, let alone experiencing, resonance.
