Timing is Everything: Temporal Processing and MultiSensory Integration
摘要
This chapter discusses the differences in autism related to temporal processing. Temporal processing is the ongoing processing of information from the initial input of sensory information through the cognitive process. In autism, when sensory modalities are combined it is believed that the processing window required to integrate two or modalities is longer than is experienced by neurotypical people. Both unisensory and multisensory stimuli are processed over time. This has been shown to be disrupted in autism because autism also can co-occur with other neurodiversities such as ADHD and dyslexia, indications how these processes affect those conditions are discussed as well. neuro inclusive design will include strategies to address the differences in temporal processing across static and dynamic stimuli and the support of a variety of experiences associated with neurodivergence.
