The Mechanism of Wave Excitation and the Physical Nature of the Vacuum Medium

We propose that a quantum particleQuantum particle (such as an electronElectron) is a quantized excitation wave of the vacuumExcitation wave of the vacuum. As an analogy, we start first by reviewing the mechanism of wave excitationWave excitation in a classical mechanical system (such as a flexible string or an elastic solidElastic solid). It is evident that the equation of motion for the excitation waveWave is entirely determined by the physical properties of the medium. But unlike mechanical systems, the vacuumVacuum system uses a different mechanism to generate a propagating waveWave. The physical nature of the vacuumVacuum is a controversial topic in physics. In classical mechanics, the vacuumVacuum was regarded as an empty space. But with the discovery of the electro-magnetic fieldFields, physicists realized that there must be a medium for carrying the electro-magnetic radiation. This medium was called “aetherAether”, which is supposed to occupy all space between matters. The AetherAether hypothesis was a widely accepted physical theory during the nineteenth century; it was disfavored in the early twentieth century. However, we are now finding strong evidence that the vacuumVacuum is not an empty space.
