Contrary to the common belief, the relation of energy-mass equivalenceEnergy-mass equivalence was not based on special relativitySpecial relativity. Instead, it is a quantum effectQuantum effect. In the case of a photonPhoton, one can easily show that the mass-energy equivalence is a consequence of the quantum relations of PlanckPlanck, M. and de BroglieDe Broglie. For particlesParticle with non-zero rest massRest mass, we can also show that the mass-energy equivalence relation is derived from the waveWave properties of the quantum particleQuantum particle. In the quantum wave modelQuantum wave model, the energy–momentum relationEnergy-momentum relation of a particleParticle originated from the dispersion relationDispersion relation of the quantum wave functionQuantum wave function. Our analysis suggests that energy, momentum, and mass are all related to the oscillations of the quantum wave functionQuantum wave function, which characterize the curving of the vacuum mediumVacuum medium in different dimensions.
