A Qualitative Evaluation of Narrative Effectiveness Used in the Six and Titanic Films: A Forgotten Minority Perspective

Often, we know famous films better than the plight of minorities when it comes to the ‘Titanic’ film in comparison with the ‘Six’ minority six that were on board the Titanic ship. The audience will never forget the ‘Titanic’ between these two films more than the ‘Six’. This study aims to discover what the ‘Six’ documentary reveals while analysing the similarities and differences between the two films using a narrative paradigm. The study also aims to find out the impact of historical truth on the Chinese minority who have watched the narrative documentary. The narrative documentary ‘Six’ examines the plight and suffering encountered by the minority. The ‘Six’ revealed differences in social class and discrimination against Chinese migrants. Both are similar when it comes to the background of historical settings but diverge on the narration of themes. It significantly impacts historical truth and social awareness. It further proves that using narrative coherence and fidelity effectively transports the content to the audience, leaving a lasting impact on the viewers. This study is limited to minority groups and cannot be extrapolated to the wider audience. Future research can be replicated using movies to help the marginalised group speak up and heal wounds.
