Current Fruit Fly Knowledge Status in Ecuador

In this chapter, a compilation of investigations about fruit flies realized since 1990 is done, these investigations were made by the official plant health authority (currently AGROCALIDAD), universities, research centers, national, and foreign researchers. The results shown here are focused on the determination of species of the genus Anastrepha Schiner present in Ecuador. Moreover, the determination of plant hosts for this genus and for the introduced species Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) is shown, and an inventory of fruit flies’ natural enemies is present in some fruit-growing areas. Finally, a compendium of the activities related to the implementation and execution of quarantine legal measures, taken by AGROCALIDAD for the assurance of our fruit exports, is done.
