摘要

Patients with cancer and chronic diseases have an inherent high risk of vascular access device (VAD)-related complications associated with their disease pathophysiology and prescribed or supportive therapies. This impacts VAD selection, insertion, maintenance, and removal. The ultimate goal is to preserve a patient’s vasculature for future therapies if required. This chapter will discuss the patient and family as integral members of the healthcare team during the life of a VAD and those patient, device, therapy, and workplace-related factors that influence VAD insertion and management and vessel health and preservation.
