Chest Masculinization

Chest masculinization is often the first, and sometimes only, gender-affirming surgery trans-masculine and non-binary patients undergo. It is critically important that the gender-affirming surgeon be fully equipped to evaluate and counsel patients pre-operatively and understand the full spectrum of both native cis-masculine aesthetic ideals as well as how those of the gender-affirmation patient population may vary. There are many aesthetic and technical nuances in achieving a natural, male- or non-binary-appearing chest, and the gender-affirming surgeon should be well knowledgeable of these nuances. They should be able to technically perform the proper chest masculinization procedure given an individual patient’s unique goals.
