Nonsurgical Management of Hyperhidrosis
摘要
Hyperhidrosis is reported to affect between 1 and 5% of the United States population. This condition can be incredibly burdensome to patients, exerting a wide range of psychological, emotional, and physical effects on patients. Visible, excessive sweating on a physical examination localized to specific areas such as the axilla, palms, or soles of the feet confirms a diagnosis of hyperhidrosis, though Minor’s starch iodine test is reliable for confirmation. Botulinum toxin is an excellent treatment for this condition, with reports of efficacy for axillary hyperhydrosis between 82 and 87%. In conclusion, early identification and intervention of hyperhidrosis is critical and providers should be well-versed on available treatment options.
