Abdominal Etching for Male Bodybuilders

First introduced in the 1990s, the abdominal etching technique to enhance natural six pack lines has increasingly gained popularity in recent years among male bodybuilders. In this chapter, we give a detailed review of the history of abdominal etching and major breakthroughs made with the use of liposuction. Our abdominal etching surgical technique is discussed along with previous experiences and adjustments. We also discuss technical pearls which include a summary of the involved anatomy, patient selection, important preoperative markings, and cannula selection. Additionally, results and outcomes studies are discussed with future considerations for the technique in its relation to the male bodybuilder physique.
