摘要

Over the course of the last two decades, plastic surgeons have witnessed a significant rise in males seeking facial esthetic surgery to mimic more masculine facial features. Anthropologic studies point out that males present with overall larger facial dimensions than females. Contribution to sexual dimorphism is more prominent in the lower third of the face. Hence, facial masculinization can be achieved by augmenting facial tissue dimensions through a variety of techniques. These include osteotomies for bone rearrangement, bone/fat grafting, and the placement of biocompatible alloplastic implants. The present chapter provides an overall description of the materials, indications, preoperative assessment/planning, and surgical techniques used for the placement of implants in the chin, mandibular angle, and malar regions. These provide skeletal augmentation for male facial esthetic improvement.
