Study of Quality Parameters for Abrasive Waterjet Cutting of Metals

The current chapter presents an approach for a practical student activity of using the abrasive waterjet cuttingAbrassive waterjet cutting technology. Abrasive waterjet cutting is regarded as an unconventional environmentally friendly technology capable of cutting complex contours on a wide range of materials using the erosive power of a high-pressured waterjet mixed with abrasive particles. Compared to other cutting technologies (plasma cutting, flame cutting, laser cutting), waterjet cutting does not produce a heat-affected zone in the material. In addition, compared to punching and shearing, it provides no distortion in the material, the power requirements are lower, and complex shapes are easier to acquire. This chapter offers basic knowledge concerning the abrasive waterjet working principles and equipment and guides the student systematically from the technical drawing to the finished part.
