Reading in the 21st Century: Digital Reading Habit of Prospective Elementary Language Teachers
摘要
The contemporary world is dominated by technologies and can be seen in various fields, such as education or even for daily purposes. Furthermore, the existence of computer-generated tools gives rise to the demand for digital reading, which has solely become a competitor of traditional printed reading. Although the growth of digital breakthroughs is evident, the literacy rate of students tends to decline, especially in the case of the Philippines. Previous studies delve into reviewing the digital reading habits of students and are limited in terms of preservice teachers. Thus, this investigation aimed to distinguish the digital reading habits of preservice elementary language educators. This study accumulated a total of 95 respondents with an age range of 18–27 years old. The tool utilized in this study was the Digital Reading Habit Questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.89). The participants were found to have ‘satisfactory’ digital reading habits. Furthermore, there was no variation between the male and female prospective elementary language teachers.
